re: "Are you ready for Hillary as Secretary of State?"

Betsy at Betsy's Page ("Comments from an AP history and government teacher in Raleigh, NC.") doesn't mince words at this prospect.

Money quote(s):

"(W)hat experience does she really have in formulating foreign policy? Are we going to count First Lady visits to tour schools and talk to spouses? What about the derision that she demonstrated for Obama's lack of experience? And what would be Bill's role while she's jetting around the world trying to bring peace to all the hot spots?"

Disclaimer: Whomever Pres.-elect Obama appoints (assuming their eventual confirmation) will eventually (and presumably for years to come) be CAA's ultimate (bar one) boss.

That being said, Sen. Clinton definitely had a disastrous start as First Lady during Pres. Clinton's first term in office. The health care reform fiasco, the White House Travel Office scandel, this list went on.

But what I don't think you can credibly claim is that Sen. Clinton isn't a fast learner. She's a sitting, second-term U.S. senator who's been getting her foreign policy chops on Capitol Hill. I would be hesitant to count her as a foreign policy lightweight at this stage in her life.

"If it comes to a choice of whom you'd prefer to see on your televisions giving press conferences, I guess Hillary is less objectionable than John Kerry. Is there anyone who wants to see him making speeches for the next four years?"

I'm just going to plead nolo contendre.
