Iran continues to supply arms and training to insurgents in Iraq despite its promise to decrease such activities, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Friday.
“I just don’t see any evidence of them backing off. And Basra highlighted a lot of that,” Adm. Michael Mullen said Friday at a news conference at the Pentagon.
Iran’s activities in Iraq have increased over the past couple of years, Mullen said.
“It’s not just weapons,” he said. “They continue to train Iraqis in Iran to come back and fight Americans in the coalition.”
Mullen provided no evidence Monday to support his allegations, but he said Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, would outline Iran’s activities in Iraq in the next couple of weeks.
