Home Leave

Home Leave is great. I should have done this years ago.

Unfortunately that wasn't at all possible, but it is possible to make up for lost time; at least sometimes it is, for some things.

Aside from the excruciatingly slow Internet dial-up available to me here in the Outer Banks, it's been a very nice week thusfar. The weather has been gorgeous, if cool-ish for much of the non-midday. It's expected to get warmer during the three-day weekend coming up.

Madam-at-Arms and The-Wee-Consular-Beastie are enjoying themselves. If I can just get Madam to relax and stop worrying about EVERYTHING, I think she'll have a better time. We're enjoying the Beastie's enjoyment. This is her second time at the beach and she delights in the surf, chasing waves and smelling all the smelly things that wash up on the shore. She had her first close encounter with a wave that was bigger than her. You can only imagine her surprise. She now treats the waves with much more respect.

The seafood experience has been very positive. Our favorite place hereabouts is Awful Arthur's. Those who know it will appreciate that a 45 minute wait for a table is worth it. Newcastle on tap with snow crab legs and/or their steamed spiced shrimp. . . . go for the side of hush puppies as well.

Too bad we didn't save room for Death By Chocolate.

An aside: Awful Arthur's t-shirts can be found in the darnedest places. My most-remote sighting was in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Thanks, Eagle1. It's great to be back. I've been coming to the Outer Banks since I was in elementary school. Madam-at-Arms and I have talked about possibly retiring hereabouts someday.

There was a run on the sweet corn at the Kitty Hawk "Food Lion;" other than that, an excellent day. I spent some time rigging some lines to display flags for the weekend.

Cheers!
