re: "LT Carman and the Order of the White Feather"
CDR Salamander suggests the revival and a nomination for The Order of the White Feather.
I would non-concur.
A seat on the short bus perhaps, especially for some of the bonehead public comments, but it's far too easy for us, thousands of miles away and safely after-the-fact, to criticize tactical decisions made in the operational moment.

You've got something there with the short bus idea, Consul.
Not necessarily for the Cornwall 15, but as a general concept for a military anti-award.
We've gone so overboard with award inflation that maybe some people need to be reminded that back when we wore short pants, "Special" wasn't a complement.

It's ridiculous that these troops, the officers included, were turned loose without a proper debriefing, as Spook86 noted (http://formerspook.blogspot.com/2007/04/change-in-plans.html), or without a RN flack to handle the press for them.
It's not like any government lacks a sufficient supply of flacks.
