Prince Albert II... said to have affection for Jamaica

JAMAICA is to establish diplomatic relations with the tiny European principality of Monaco located on the French Riviera. Minister of Information and Development Senator Colin Campbell told journalists Monday that the proposal came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade following a recent visit to Monaco by Jamaica's ambassador to France, Evadne Cot.

"On that occasion, His Highness Prince Albert II and other members of the Royal Family met with the ambassador and requested that Jamaica establish diplomatic relations with a view to enhancing bilateral relations between Jamaica and Monaco. The prince, we are told, has great affection for Jamaica," Campbell said.

A city/state, Monaco is the second smallest independent country after the Vatican, and has a population of 32,409 people and an area of 1.95 square miles (approximately 482 acres). It is not a member of the European Union but is closely linked to it via a customs union with France.

Monaco has more millionaires per capita than any other country in the world, as the absence of personal income tax has lured many wealthy "tax refugees" from other European countries.
