THE JAMAICA Defence Force (JDF) Air Wing on Wednesday conducted a medical evacuation, off the South Coast of Kingston to the University Hospital of the West Indies, of a native of India who had fallen ill onboard a bulk cargo vessel which had been originally en route to the United States.
"The motor vessel ... had to detour to Jamaica, when one of its seamen, 23-year-old Harikrishnan Muraleedharan, fell ill," said a statement from the JDF Thursday. "The call for assistance was received by the JDF Coast Guard and relayed to the Air Wing. The patient was hoisted off the vessel onto the JDF helicopter and flown to the University Hospital."
The India High Commission and the Maritime Services Limited, which is the agency for the vessel, were advised of the medical evacuation mission.
