Burning oil wells, April 2003

This very dark shot was taken at night in early April 2003 from Camp Udairi, Kuwait. What is barely detectable in the picture in the upper center foreground is a reddish glow.
Visible at night from Camp Udairi for about a week was the glow of burning oil wells in southern Iraq. Casting a very Mordor-like glow, on one exceptionally clear night, actual flames were visible. (click on image to enlarge and make-out red glow on horizon)

Interesting... I don't mean to be combative (no pun intended) -- but why are you posting old pix of Kuwait?
Mostly because I just figured-out how to post photos and wanted to some of my OIF photoes online.
Don't worry, there will be Iraq pictures too.
It's too bad the MSM de-emphasizes Saddam's scorched-earth defensive strategy. The burning oil wells symbolize all the other infrastructure he destroyed in order to "save" Iraq.
Maybe, as someone who was there, you have a better perspective: how much of the infrastructure dysfunction in Iraq is due to post-liberation insurgent action/coalition mismanagement, and how much is due to Saddam's stated policy of making the country impossible for a conqueror to govern?
And if the latter, don't the MSM commit a mortal sin of omission by forgetting to mention it, e.g.: "lines formed again today for coalition-subsidized gas [BECAUSE SADDAM BURNED HIS OWN WELLS AND TOLD HIS PETRO-ENGINEERS TO STAY HOME WHEN THE AMERICANS CAME]," "lights flickered again tonight [BECAUSE SADDAM DESTROYED HIS OWN POWER PLANTS AND HIS BAATHIST ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS REFUSED TO SHOW UP FOR WORK WHEN THE AMERICANS CAME]," etc.?

Good Job! :)
